The ceramic series “Faces of the Soil” features a row of human heads coated with collected materials—such as iron-rich clays, sands, and wood ashes processed into glazes—which fused with the heads during firing. Different layers of the soil manifest themselves in human form within the heads. Humanity is currently in the Anthropocene—an era questioned by science, in which humanity has intervened in geological processes to such an extent that the consequences will be felt for a long time to come. The Anthropocene describes the reverse process of the ceramic series: humans and their technologies manifest themselves in the layers of the Soil.
