The salt firing at the International Ceramics Studio in Kecskemét, Hungary, operates as an atmospheric firing. Unglazed ceramics can be placed in the kiln because in high temperatures around 1200°C salt gets introduced into the kiln and reacts with the heat. The salt turns into a gas when heated and forms in reaction with the clay pieces a highly glossy layer. The postures of the two female busts reflect a dedication to a process of transformation. They radiate a certainty that, while they are being shaped by the atmosphere, they will endure.
